24-hours after, abductors of Edo varsity professor yet to make contact

Ekpoma, Edo – 48 hours after Prof. Monday Igbafen, the Benin Zonal Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, his abductors are yet to make contact with his family members and colleagues.
Some unknown gunmen during the weekend at Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State whisked away, Prof. Igbafen to an unknown den.
The Ambrose Alli University, (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Cyril Onogbosele, who confirmed the abduction disclosed that the zonal coordinator was kidnapped at the entrance of his house in uptown Ekpoma on Saturday night by the gunmen, who laid a snare for him.
Prof. Igbafen, the immediate past local chairman of ASUU at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAU) was appointed as the zonal coordinator of the union, June last year by the national chairman Prof. national Emmanuel Osodoke.
As a zonal coordinator, Comrade Igbafen coordinates the activities of the union in the seven universities which comprises the University of Benin (UNIBEN); AAU)p Ekpoma; and Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
Other schools in the zone are Federal University of Petroleum and Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State; University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor; Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka; and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State.
Dr. Onogbosele said that the whereabouts of the zonal coordinator remain unknown as the abductors have not establish link with neither his family nor colleagues.
He added: "It's true that ASUU Benin Zonal coordinator, Prof. Igbafen was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Saturday night. The kidnappers are yet to call. We don't know their demands."
He said that Prof. Igbafen of the Department of Philosophy, AAU had gone out on Saturday evening and was on his way home in the night at about 8 pm when the heavily armed hoodlums accosted him by the gate and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Determined efforts to get across to the Edo State Police spokesman, Mr. Moses Yamu proved futile as his number was serially engaged.
