As the unofficial biographer of Chief (Dr.) Patrick Osagiewangbon Eholor, I have closely been on his trail for over 15 years. So, I can authoritatively report with sublime accuracy that he is a man of many parts. Yes, an accomplished versatile man that Nigeria needs today to salvage it from its worrisome season of anomie.
Here is his copious range of his versatility. In one breath, he is a social crusader for development, a human rights activist, a community leader snd builder, real estate lord, a hotel entrepreneur, an Edo cultural ambassador, a motivational speaker with marble quotes a BobMarleyan afficionado, a highlife enthusiast, an astute politician, a radical loud patriot, an existentialist in the mould of the emeritus Albert Camus, a truth advocate, a societal pathfinder as well as a self-assurance conversationist all rolled into one humane, organised bundle.
Let us begin from the last component of his versatile whole. I mean his predictive, prophetic conversational character.
If you read the Nigerian Observer of August 5, 2013 you will get a feel of it. In this publication authored by me, he canvassed that the docile masses of Nigeria which the legendary afrobeat musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti sang about is responsible for why our walk to freedom will be long and very boring.
Trust, he is educated. He wanted his Labour Party to sweep the poll during the September 21, 2024 Governorship election. But the masses only gave the party a paltry 22,763 votes. A mere 4 percent of the the total valid votes cast. The result? The party woefully lost the election.
Today, he is downcast over the development but not out. Because according to Innocent Idibia, aka Tu Baba, in the remix of Akaba song tract: "No matter what they do, God will not allow an enemy to keep a good man down".
For him, no decamping to the winning party. Labour Party still remains Nigeria's last hope for true democracy, he avows.
Secondly, recall i said Dr Patrick Eholor is a motivational speaker. Good. Here is one of them. He says: "One man with courage makes a majority."
Through this profound saying he attempts to attribute Godliness to courage that people like himself, Mandela, Fela, Martin Luther, Fidel Castro, Isaac Boro, Nnamdi Kanu and Jerry Rawlings among other great men of history embody.
In his role as an advocate of truth, Patrick Eholor does not spare anyone who commits acts that offends his sensibilities. For instance on July 15, 2024 he lampooned Obaseki for not de-flooding Benin City the state capital.
His words: "The streets of Benin City are a disgrace because of flood disaster. Ihama Street is a testament of this situation and a proof of the failure of Obaseki administration to provide even the most basic infrastructure. Yet Governor Obaseki and his cronies have the audacity to boast of finishing strong at the end of his tenure."
On another occasion, Patrick Eholor attacked Former Senator Uzamere, PDP chieftain, for accusing the Labour Party's governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata for trying to create divisions between Esan people and the Binis. Because of his decision as a Benin man to contest when the generality of Edo people affirm it is Esan turn to produce a governor in Edo State.
Here is what Patrick Ehoĺor told him in acidic words, "I put it to you that you are the one wanting to create divisions between the Esan and Benin people ìn the state. Now you have found your missing voice. Did you talk when Obaseki chased Shaibu out of his office? Did you talk? No!! You kept mute because of your paymaster, Mr Godwin Obaseki.
"Why have you not advised Obaseki not to disrespect our oba? Why did you not advìse Obaseki not to destroy Tony kabaka's hotel? "Uzamere, be like the late statesman Chief Tony Anenih and Captain Hosa Okuñbo. Stop worshipping mammon. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and then losè his soul?"
You may think that Patrick Eholor only fires from the hips at 'outside' opponents. No. If you do wrong, you come within his gun sights. This explains why he took on Olumide Akpata (SAN) his Labour Party candidate in the September 21, 2024 governorship election over the choice of a running mate.
In an open statement, he told Olumide: "As a Labour Party chieftain, who is greatly worried about how Nigeria can get better and how to ensure that our party clinches Edo State Governorship Election, you can understand why I am so concerned....Olumide, you have to be very careful in choosing the right candidate as deputy. Do it with due consultation with the people not with money or your strength or spiritual consultation. Remember, human beings will vote not spirits."
How about Patrick Eholor's role as a builder of people, institutions and structures? He has excelled also in this capacity. He has empowered anyone who is lucky to be his chosen friend after a rigorous moral screening exercise by him. This is he hates betrayals, lies, deceit, falsehood as well as Judas Iscariot double speak association.
Are you a fool? Stay away. Keep a distance. He never duffers fools gladly.
Also, as a builder, his singular contributions to creating the Labour Party in Edo State and sustaining it till date with his personal resources earned from independent sources not government.
He is among the oldest, ancestral aborigines of Labòur Party in Edo State.
In the run up to the governorship election he was forced to bring 'One Love' medical therapy to the ailing Labour Party bogged down by greed, power play and money while Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti do nothing, warning that is a recipe for party to die a natural death.
Don't be in a hurry to accuse Patrick Eholor of being a doomsday prophet. He is only being truthful without embellished reservations.
Afterall, did Christ not say a house divided among itself cannot stand? Similarly, isn't the Labour House in Nigeria and Edo State today a house of confusion without promotion, he reasons.
Imagine, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Joe Ajaero pickets the headquarters of the Labour Party in Abuja during a recent protest in 2024; while in Edo State, Odion Olaye, the chairman of the NLC is a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party always doing the biddings of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Can't you now understand what I am saying, Patrick Eholor will ask you. How can the Labour House not crumble when key stakeholders in it are running with the hares and simultaneously hunting with the hounds?
Well, because Patrick Eholor is a versatile man of goodwill his prayers is that a day is coming when like minds will join him to breath the life-saving oxygen of ONE LOVE into the Labour Family House to save it from extinction.
So, from the foregoing, does Chief Patrick Osagiewagbon Eholor pray? Yes, he does. An aspect of his versatile, multitasking lifestyle is that he is always acting as his friend's personal home pastor Unlike the modern, traditionalist way of messaging a greeting to friends, he reaches oùt to them with motivational, inspiring prayers.
On June 24, 2024 he sent one of his prayers to his friend.
It reads: "Greetings. When God is at work, everything is possible. When he visits, he makes all hings anew. This period God shall visit you and make all things glorious for you. You are blessed. Have a glorious day. Amen".
Indeed Chief (Dr.) Patricķ Osagiewagbon Osagìe is a jack of all the components of his versatility and mastet of all. A succesful man of many parts
You can say that he is as diligent as the ant.
Hence, today, he is conquering the principalities of the world and helping in giving a voice to the oppressed people in Nigeria where the poorest citizens on earth live.
