Benin, Edo – A former Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant, and human rights lawyer, Dele Igbinedion has disclosed that he will not support the party's candidate, Olumide Akpata for the gubernatorial election in September 2024.

Igbinedion made the disclosure in a post on his Facebook page, on Wednesday.

According to the former lawmaker, Akpata does not represent the party's ideology.

"Hello everyone. It is time for me to speak up. For we are watchmen over our people, our democracy and our future trajectory. We are the moulders of tomorrow by the decisions and actions of today.

"I am constrained by conscience, ideology and my love for Edo people to open up and state unequivocally that I will not be supporting the person who claims to have emerged as the Labour Party Governorship candidate for Edo 2024 elections.

"In my honest opinion, the man is antithetical to every Labour Party ideology.

"So, I will NOT be supporting him.", Igbinedion posted
