WARRI, Delta – Deputy Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), Hon. Fred Martins, has raised an urgent call for assistance following the devastating impact of a recent ocean surge in parts of his constituency.

Communities affected by the surge include Ogheye-Eghoroke, Ogheye-Dimigun, and several others along the Benin River in Warri North Local Government Area.

During a visit to assess the damage caused by severe flooding, Hon. Martins, who represents Warri North, appealed to the federal government and its agencies to provide relief materials for displaced families and commence the construction of shoreline protection to prevent future occurrences.

He stressed the need for a long-term solution to the problem.

Hon. Martins also expressed gratitude to the Delta State government for its prompt response in sending officials to evaluate the damage caused by the ocean surge.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Survey, and Urban Development, he further called on multinational and oil companies operating in the area to extend assistance to the affected communities.
