Uteh, Edo – A special committee has been constituted by the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, to put into perspective, issues concerning the hitherto disputed site B of the Ugbowo campus of the University.

This was part of the outcomes of peace meetings between the University's Management and Edionwere as well as members of the two neighbouring communities of Efosa and Uteh.

The Vice Chancellor had solicited the intervention of his Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, to help restore lasting peace.

The palace was represented at the meetings by two high ranking Chiefs led by Chief Uzamere.

Unlike the hostilities of the past, the Vice Chancellor and his team were warmly received by the communities and the visits marked by exchange of gifts and conviviality.

There had been litigations over the land but the Vice Chancellor insisted that although the University won the court cases, it was expedient to win the peace as well.

The special committee which is to ascertain the specifics, including the extent of encroachment on the land, is headed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Victor Igbineweka.
