Oredo, Edo – A whistleblower's revelation of suspected Revenue collection diversion has sparked controversy within the Oredo Government Council.

Dr. Osaheni Igbinigie, Head of Local Government Administration, HOLGA, stands accused of Indiscriminate revenue contract awards to unknown persons, while backdating contracts for personal gain and failing to remit proceeds to the Council's accounts.

Dr. Igbinigie was also accused of refusing to resume at Ovia North East after redeployment from Oredo Government Council sometime ago before his redeployment was said to have been revised by the Head of Service, Edo State government back to the council.

The allegations come, amidst the ongoing purported suspension saga of 18 council chairmen, by the Edo State House Of Assembly.

On December 17, 2024, the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo's letter was read during a plenary at the state Assembly urging members to emforce a suspension on the 18 Local Government Council Chairmen citing financial misappropriation for his actions.

This move, however, escalated repellent from the Council's Chairmen who were Stark bent on the constitutional provisions limiting the state executive power from carrying out the suspension .

It was learned from a close source who pleaded anonymity for fear of attacks that Dr. Igbinigie leveraged the indifference between the council chairmen and the state government where he was accused of quickly playing a fast one in the alleged act and awards contracts to unknown persons.

In contrasting claims, Dr. Igbinigie denied the allegations during his response to our Correspondent on Tuesday, Insisting that cash collection is handled solely by Oredo Rev, arguing that it has not been disbounded.

In another contrasting revelation, a source disclosed that, the said move was only an intention harboured and aborted by the accused Igbinigie after a certain pressure mounted on him to discontinue. "The payments as of Monday have since returned to the Oredo pay online template," the source explained.

In March 2024, the Oredo Government Council under the leadership of Dr. Tom Obaseki designed and launched an online payment application, "Oredo Pay", aimed at seamless transactions where he said the template will promote transparency and accountability

The Oredo Council's innovative Oredo Pay initiative aims to establish the council as a premier business destination, renowned for transparency and security.

However, allegations of indiscriminate revenue contracts and financial mismanagement pose significant risks. If unchecked, these practices could, undermine Oredo Pay's purpose, erode public trust and Jeopardize council finances.

Prompt investigation and corrective action are crucial to uphold transparency, protect public interest and ensure accountability.
