Benin, Edo – Following high cost of transportation fares occasioned by fuel subsidy removal, residents living outside Benin City, have called on the state government to increase the number of Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) buses popularly known as 'Oshiomole Bus' traversing the state to reduce their sufferings.
The residents, who spoke to BENDEL Mirror over the week maintained that Upper Mission Extension, Benin-Auchi and Benin-Agbor roads down to the bypass axis need more ECTS buses to convey commuters to and fro Benin metropolis.
According to a commuter, and resident of Ikhueniro community near the Benin-Agbor road bypass, Edith Osayi, when available, the buses will go a long way to reduce lateness to work and school.
"We want government to help us. At least two at once. Two of Oshiomole buses to come early in the morning come carry this kind many people going to work; both students.
"The price cheap pass, compare to normal transport. Small distance they tell you big price. Oshiomole bus is better", the commuter said
Recalled in January, ECTS managing director, Festus Ehimua disclosed that broken down buses inherited from the previous administration are undergoing repairs.
Ehimua maintained that the transport company is expecting new CNG buses to ameliorate sufferings of Edo commutters.
He told journalists that governor Okpebholo is "working very hard to ensure that before the end of February" the company "get new buses, CNG buses, to be able to give Edo people better living."
