Owan, Edo – A civicA civic organization, MonITNG, have tracked a road project titled Warrake-Iyakhare-Egono Road in Owan East LGA, Edo State (C/No. 7658) and discovered that the project has been completely abandoned despite full payment to the contractor.

‎According to the civic watchdog, a verified data from Govspend revealed that ₦1,195,542,717.12 was paid to HAMIX LIMITED by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in three installments: ₦294M in August 2023, ₦70.6M in September 2024, and ₦830.8M in November 2024. Eight months later, not a single sign of work exists at the site.

‎The organization noted that the road is the only access road connecting Warrake-Iyakhare-Egono in Owan East Local Government aArea (LGA) to LGAs in Etsako, all in Edo State.

‎It further noted that if completed, the route would significantly enhance socioeconomic activities especially agribusiness.

‎MonITNG called for urgent action by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the project as well as the contractor responsible, to be held accountable for every public funds released for the project.
