Ondo begins statewide water testing

Akure, Ondo – The Ondo State Government is set to embark on water testing across the three Senatorial Districts as part of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to providing safe and potable water for residents.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Ayodele Akande, disclosed this during a meeting with environmental health officers from Ondo Central Senatorial District, held at the Water Corporation Board Room, Alagbaka, Akure.
According to a statement issued by the Head, Media and Publicity Unit of the Ministry, Oluwakemi Adedeji-Adeyemi, Akande lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for providing water testing kits, stressing that they would aid in tracking water quality and reducing cases of waterborne diseases in the state.
The Administrative Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Victoria Opeyemi Adetoye, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to promote hygiene and protect public health, describing access to safe drinking water as non-negotiable.
She charged environmental health officers to work in close collaboration with the ministry to ensure the success of the programme, noting that they would serve as vital links between the ministry and local government councils.
In their remarks, Sanitarian Ayodeji Balogun from Akure South and Sanitarian Oluboyede Ayorinde from Akure North, speaking on behalf of their colleagues, expressed appreciation to the governor for the kits and assured of their full cooperation.
They pointed out that the kits would enable on-the-spot testing, making water monitoring more effective and efficient in communities.
The meeting was attended by top management officials of the ministry, who pledged support for the smooth rollout and success of the statewide water testing exercise.
