Benin, Edo – The Edo State Parole Board, constituted under the Nigerian Correctional Service, has continued hearings on parole applications for shortlisted inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Benin (commonly known as White House).

Chaired by Hon. Justice Alero Edodo Eruaga (rtd), the Board continued its hearing last Friday, August 22, 2025.

A total of 14 applications were reviewed, and inmates were physically and meticulously interviewed for consideration.

The evaluation emphasized good behavior, productivity while in custody, evidence of reformation and rehabilitation, as well as plans for effective reintegration.

The chairperson informed the inmates that only those sentenced in Edo State courts would be considered for parole.

The final list of recommended inmates will be forwarded to the Controller General of Correctional Services, CGC Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche MFR, mni, for review and potential release on parole once the Board's work is completed.

As previously stated, the parole process will not only impact the lives of the concerned inmates but will also benefit society and Nigeria at large.

The Board is committed to ensuring public safety while promoting the rehabilitation and redemption of inmates, as enshrined in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019.

Other Board members include representatives from the Nigerian Correctional Services, DCC Jonathan Ikpea (Officer in Charge of Non-Custodial Services, Edo State Command and Board Secretary), the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and professionals from various organizations, including PRAWA, the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, the Nigerian Psychological Association, the Association of Medical Social Workers, the Edo State Ministry of Gender and Social Issues, and the Edo Civil Society Organization (EdoCSO).
