Osogbo, Osunbor – The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has debunked claims that his administration abandoned the Iwo-Osogbo Road project.

Reacting to reports suggesting the project was only approved after public outcry, the governor, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, clarified that approval for the road’s reconstruction was granted as far back as January 2025.

He explained that the procurement process began three months ago and was only recently concluded.

According to the statement:

“Our attention has been drawn to a report claiming that the Iwo-Osogbo road was only approved after agitation. This is false. Governor Adeleke had long initiated steps toward the road’s reconstruction, with procurement processes starting almost three months ago and recently finalized.

"This week, letters of award were issued to contractors, and all have been duly received. The Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Dr. BT Salami, also carried out a pre-work inspection yesterday, ahead of full mobilisation to site on Monday.

"The public should disregard insinuations that the governor acted under pressure. Governor Adeleke has consistently shown love for Iwoland through ongoing infrastructure projects. Beyond the dualisation of Iwo township roads, the Iwo-Osogbo reconstruction has remained a top priority.

"The governor needs no protest or agitation to act in the best interest of Iwoland. He has assured the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Iwo Board of Trustees, and elders of the town that all pending projects will be completed within the agreed timeline. He is committed to walking the talk.”
