Akure, Ondo – Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has responded to recent protests in Ondo State by individuals claiming they were denied employment during the state’s recent teacher recruitment exercise conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The governor clarified that the protesters were not legitimate teachers but victims of a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by scammers who issued fake employment and posting letters in exchange for payments.
According to a statement by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the affected applicants were identified during a biometric verification process, which revealed their appointment letters as fraudulent.
The statement further disclosed that three SUBEB insiders, allegedly complicit in the scam, have faced disciplinary action for colluding with external fraudsters to exploit unsuspecting applicants.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the recruitment process was transparent, with over 2,000 teachers successfully employed for primary and secondary schools across the state. These teachers have already commenced work.
In a proactive move, the governor has directed SUBEB management to engage with the victims of the scam in a meeting to address their grievances. Additionally, a committee has been established to investigate the matter further and ensure justice for those affected.
The Ondo State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency in public service recruitment and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
