Abakaliki, Ebonyi – A recent investigation by TrackaNG has brought to light significant concerns regarding the progress of a N900 million road construction project in Ebonyi State, funded under the 2024 Federal Government Budget.
The project, aimed at the completion of the construction with drainages of the rigid concrete pavement of the Letu-Ekoli Road in Osisioma Edda community, Edda Local Government Area, has seen partial completion but leaves much to be desired.
The initiative, overseen by the Federal Capital Cooperative Joint Investment River (FCCOJI River) and executed by Garykon Company Ltd, was intended to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
TrackaNG's on-site visit in August 2025 revealed that while a concrete road has been constructed from Letu to Ekata, the stretch from Ekata to Owutu remains in a dilapidated state, consisting of unpaved, rough terrain that poses challenges for local commuters.
Additionally, the investigation noted inconsistencies in the installation of drainage systems. While some sections of the road feature proper drainage, others lack this critical infrastructure, raising concerns about potential flooding and further deterioration during the rainy season.
During the visit, no contractor personnel were present at the site, suggesting a halt in construction activities.
The incomplete state of the Letu-Ekoli Road has sparked frustration among local residents, who rely on this route for transportation and economic activities. The road is a vital lifeline for the Osisioma Edda community. The partial completion has left the community divided, with some areas benefiting from improved access while others remain isolated.
TrackaNG has called upon the FCCOJI River to urgently address the situation by summoning Garykon Company Ltd back to the site to complete the remaining work.
The organization emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the utilization of the allocated funds, urging the contractor to fulfill the project's original scope, including the construction of drainages across the entire route.
