Benin, Edo – Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State, has made a heartfelt pledge to prioritize the welfare of teachers across the state as the world marks World Teachers' Day.

In a statement released Sunday, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions, salaries, allowances, and retirement benefits of educators, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping the state’s future.

The governor’s announcement coincides with the global celebration of World Teachers' Day, themed around collaboration and support for the teaching profession.

Governor Okpebholo hailed teachers as "nation builders, mentors, and the architects of our future," commending their dedication and resilience despite challenging circumstances.

"The Okpebholo administration is committed to implementing policies that will not only improve the working conditions of our teachers but also enhance their capacity through continuous training and access to modern teaching tools," Mr. Itua stated.

The governor specifically promised the prompt payment of salaries and allowances, improved retirement benefits, and the creation of a more conducive learning and teaching environment in all public schools.

This pledge aligns with ongoing efforts to revitalize Edo State’s education sector, building on the EdoBEST reforms initiated in 2018, which have focused on structured pedagogy and technology-driven teaching, as noted in a recent World Bank blog post.

Governor Okpebholo underscored that no educational reform can succeed without prioritizing teachers’ professional development and welfare. He assured educators that his administration sees their sacrifices and is dedicated to supporting them, particularly in ensuring quality education reaches every child in the state.

In his message, the governor extended his appreciation and goodwill to all teachers in Edo State, from primary to tertiary institutions. "To every teacher—your impact is immeasurable. The foundation you lay in the lives of our children determines the trajectory of our state," the statement read.

He urged teachers to remain steadfast in upholding high professional standards, reinforcing their role as the bedrock of society.
