Osogbo, Osun – In a bid to boost citizens’ participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, on Sunday led a delegation of INEC staff on a sensitisation visit to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Breakthrough Cathedral, located in Osogbo, the state capital.

The outreach, which took place during the church’s Sunday service, aimed to enlighten worshippers on the importance of registering to vote, collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and participating actively in the electoral process.

In his address to the congregation, Agboke emphasised that voting is not only a civic responsibility but also a moral duty that contributes to the development and progress of the nation. He highlighted the role of religious institutions in shaping public opinion and fostering civic engagement.

“We have come here not to preach politics, but to preach participation,” Agboke stated. “The church is a powerful platform for social change, and we believe that if citizens of faith take ownership of the electoral process, we will witness more credible elections and better governance.”

He noted that the CVR exercise provides an opportunity for eligible Nigerians who are yet to register, those who have relocated, or those who need corrections on their voter records to do so before the upcoming elections.

The REC also stressed the importance of PVC collection, urging those who had registered but are yet to collect their cards to do so without delay. He reminded congregants that only those with valid PVCs would be able to vote during elections.

The parish pastor and leaders of the church commended INEC for the outreach, describing it as a proactive step towards citizen mobilisation. They pledged to continue encouraging their members to register and participate in elections as part of their civic responsibility.

The visit is part of INEC Osun State’s broader sensitisation campaign, targeting various religious, educational, and community institutions to raise awareness about the ongoing voter registration exercise across the state.

The Continuous Voter Registration exercise is ongoing across designated INEC centers in all local government areas in Osun State.
