Ogwashi-Uku, Delta – The Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, has confirmed that it is actively investigating allegations of certificate racketeering within the institution.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, comes in response to mounting concerns over a scandal that threatens the credibility of the polytechnic, one of the three tertiary institutions of its kind in Delta State.
The allegations first surfaced earlier this year following an undercover investigation by freelance journalist Martin White-Ufuah, whose findings were publicized by Rufai Oseni in February 2025. The investigation claimed that National Diploma (ND) certificates could be purchased from the polytechnic, with evidence including a certificate awarded to White-Ufuah with an Upper Credit grade, despite no legitimate academic effort.
This revelation echoed a similar 2023 scandal in Benin Republic, where fake university degrees were sold, raising red flags about educational integrity across West Africa.
In a statement released to journalists, Hon. (Pastor) Paul Adingwupu, Chairman of the Governing Council, described the allegations as a serious matter that the institution is determined to address transparently.
“The Governing Council is committed to upholding the integrity of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku,” Adingwupu said, adding, “We are conducting a thorough investigation into these claims and will not tolerate any form of malpractice that undermines our educational standards.”
