Aba, Abia – The Abia State Government has issued a public announcement directing all mechanics and auto spare parts dealers operating along School Road, Clifford Road, Hospital Road, Jubilee Road, and Azikiwe Road in Aba North, Aba South, and Obingwa Local Government Areas to relocate to the Ovom Industrial Mechanic Cluster at Ogbor Hill.

The deadline for this relocation is set for October 15, 2025, with enforcement to commence immediately thereafter.

The directive, was issued on Friday by the Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

It highlights the government's intent to decongest the Aba metropolis, fostering a safer, more organized, and business-friendly environment.

The announcement notes that a one-year grace period, initially requested by the dealers and extended until May 2025, has already elapsed, urging immediate compliance.

This move aligns with the state’s broader vision of promoting "Prosperity through Enterprise," as inscribed on the government’s emblem. The relocation plan, first hinted at in December 2023 by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu during a visit to the Ovom cluster, aims to streamline industrial activities and reduce urban clutter.

The government has emphasized that the decision follows extensive consultations with mechanic unions and spare parts associations, including the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), which had previously pledged cooperation.

Dealers are urged to comply by the October 15 deadline, with the government warning of enforcement actions for non-compliance.
