Adazi-Enu, Anambra – A N25 million project to construct a solar-powered borehole with an overhead tank at Akwankwo Village Hall in Adazi-Enu, Anambra State, has been abandoned, leaving the community without access to the promised water supply.
The project, facilitated by Senator Victor Umeh and implemented by the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu (FCAI), has sparked outrage and calls for a thorough investigation into the mismanagement of public funds.
According to a detailed post on X by @monitng on Friday, the borehole was drilled, but the overhead tank and solar components were never installed. The contractor, Doson New Tech Nigeria Ltd, reportedly abandoned the site in November 2024, leaving the project incomplete.
The post raises serious concerns about the allocation of the project to FCAI, an institution based in Ebonyi State focused on agricultural education and research, rather than a water resource agency.
This has fueled suspicions of systemic irregularities in project nomination and implementation. Tracka, a civic organization dedicated to monitoring public projects, first uncovered the abandonment, prompting demands for accountability.
@monitng has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the contractor, FCAI, and Senator Umeh, questioning where the N25 million allocated by the Federal Government has gone.
The post emphasizes that such public funds, intended to improve lives, represent a betrayal of trust when left unutilized.
Senator Umeh, a prominent figure representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has yet to comment on the allegations.
