Calabar, Cross River – Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State on Friday, October 10, 2025, officially launched the distribution of subsidized mini tractors to farmers across the state’s 18 local government areas.
The event, marked by a ceremonial flag-off and hands-on demonstration, underscores the governor’s commitment to modernizing agriculture, enhancing food security, and improving the livelihoods of rural farmers.
In a series of posts on X Friday, Governor Otu expressed his delight at the initiative, stating, “Today, I had the joy of flagging off the distribution of subsidized mini tractors to farmers across our 18 local government areas. For me, this is about giving our hardworking farmers the tools they need to grow more food, earn more income, and live better lives.”
The distribution targets genuine farmer cooperatives, ensuring that even small-scale farmers can benefit from mechanized farming.
Governor Otu further elaborated that each cooperative receiving the tractors will undergo training on proper usage and maintenance to ensure the equipment serves the community for years to come.
“Our goal is simply to make farming easier, more profitable, and attractive to our youths again,” he added, noting, "together, we are building a Cross River where food is abundant and every farmer is proud of their work.”
