PHOTO Health Irish surgeon donates medical equipment to UBTH

Benin, Edo – Emmanuel Eguare, a distinguished Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Clinical Director at NAAS General Hospital, Ireland, donated a wide range of medical equipment and consumables to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Tuesday.

The generous contribution aims to address the challenges faced by doctors due to limited access to essential medical supplies.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Mr. Eguare praised UBTH’s medical professionals for their resilience and commitment to achieving remarkable results despite resource constraints.

During the presentation ceremony, he described the donation as “the very beginning” of his collaboration with UBTH, pledging ongoing support.

“This hospital is close to my heart. Use these items to the very best so patients can benefit maximally,” he said, emphasizing the potential of virtual platforms and the internet to strengthen future partnerships.

The donated items include laparoscopic consumables (scratch pads), circular staplers, auto suture clamps, laryngeal masks, laparoscopic graspers, armoured endotracheal tubes, PDS sutures, biopsy punches, high-concentration masks, scalpels, T.E.D. stockings, arterial cannulas, blood pressure monitoring kits, proctoscopes, sigmoidoscopes, suction tubes, engine tubes, drainage catheters, transchosomic catheters, mini tracheotomy sets, steam blades, needle holders, fibre plaster, and laparoscopic caps and mesh of various sizes and brands.

Representing UBTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Stanley Okugbo, expressed gratitude for Mr. Eguare’s generosity and dedication to supporting the hospital’s mission.

The event was attended by notable medical professionals, including Prof. Clement Osime, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, and Dr. Irowa Omorodion, Consultant General Surgeon.

Mr. Eguare’s donation marks a significant step toward enhancing healthcare delivery at UBTH, with hopes of sustained collaboration to further improve patient care.
