Abraka, Delta – The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, has ordered an investigation into the violence that broke out during the social activities forming part of the Students’ Union Week.

This was contained in a statement released by the university and obtained by our correspondent on Saturday.

It was gathered that the Students Union week last Wednesday was marred with disagreement between the Union’s president, the president of a department, and some event attendants.

The department was said to have organised a welcome party on the day (Wednesday) for all 100-level students.

However, the union’s president was said to have stormed the event and ordered it to be shut down because the union’s week should be prioritised.

The disagreement, according to sources, erupted into a physical brawl that led to one of the guests in the event suffering an injury.

Reacting, the DELSU Vice Chancellor said, “The University administration received with sadness and strong disapproval the report of violence and disorderly conduct involving some students and Students Union officials at the Pre-Degree Hall and other parts of the university between 6.39 pm and 7.30 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

“After a review of the report, a committee has been constituted to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incident. All those found culpable after due investigation shall be dealt with by extant university regulations.”
