Benin, Edo – In a significant stride for community safety and development, the Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, Eheneden Sub-zone under Benin Zone, has installed more than 30 high-powered solar streetlights across underserved neighborhoods in Benin City.
Valued at over ₦2.5 million and fully funded by member contributions, the 3,000-watt solar units illuminate key streets including Owegie, Iyobosa, 2nd Cemetery Road, Owina, and areas near Evbuotubu Police Station, Trade Fair, and Ogbe-Ibuya Primary School.
Eheneden Sub-zonal Coordinator, Comrade Ekene Gilbert (Kenzo), hailed the project as a symbol of "light for progress and unity," addressing power shortages and insecurity through sustainable CSR efforts.
Residents praised the initiative.
Trader, who identified herself as miss Omonikhe, noted extension of business hours without fear, while one Mr. Nosakhare Agho reported boost in nighttime security for pedestrians and drivers.
Kenzo promised more interventions ahead and urged locals to protect the lights from vandalism for lasting impact.
This project underscores NBM's commitment to tangible community upliftment.
