Akure, Ondo – Residents of Ijoka in Akure South Local Government Area staged a protest on Monday morning, blocking the entrance to Ijoka/Ijo Mimo Access Road over its deplorable condition, which they say has persisted for four years.
Chanting anti-government songs, the demonstrators decried frequent accidents, hardship for commuters, and worsening living conditions due to the impassable road, especially during rainy seasons.
"For the past three to four years, it has been the worst experience so far. Whether during the rainy season or dry season, you can’t enjoy this road," said resident Ayanfe Adeyemi.
Akure South LGA Chairman, Gbenga Fasua, addressed the protesters on site, assuring them that the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration has not abandoned the project.
He stated that efforts are underway to rehabilitate the road and pledged that construction work would resume soon.
