Orsumoghu, Anambra – In a significant turnaround for the community of Orsumoghu in Anambra State, residents are seen returning to their homes after more than eight years of displacement caused by the activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and associated criminalities.

A video, shared by Pastor Okezie J. Atañi on X, captures an emotional and physical reclaiming of villages, schools, homes, markets, churches, and farmlands that had been abandoned due to the prolonged conflict.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed his excitement over this development, noting the return of life to various parts of Ihiala Local Government Area, including Orsumoghu, Isseke, Mbosi, Lilu, and Ubuluisiuzo.

In a recent statement, he highlighted the videos circulating on social media as proof of the long struggle against what he described as criminals masquerading as freedom fighters.

Soludo emphasized the importance of community involvement in cleansing and rebuilding the land, alongside the efforts of security agencies.

The return of the residents marks a critical phase in the region's recovery, following military operations like Operation UDO KA, which have been instrumental in dismantling IPOB/ESN strongholds.

The strategic location of Orsumoghu, once a hotspot for IPOB activities, has now become a symbol of resilience and hope for the people of Anambra State.

One resident, speaking anonymously, said, "We are happy to be back, but there is much work to be done. Our homes need repair, and our farmlands need to be tended to again. But we are ready to start anew."

The broader context of this return is set against a backdrop of significant economic and social disruption caused by IPOB's activities, including a reported $4.75 billion loss and the displacement of thousands due to the "sit-at-home" orders and associated violence.

The reclaiming of Orsumoghu is seen as a step towards restoring peace and stability in the Southeast, with hopes that other affected areas will follow suit.

As the community of Orsumoghu embarks on this journey of rebuilding, the collective effort of the residents, supported by state and security initiatives, underscores a pivotal moment in the region's quest for normalcy and prosperity.
