Uromi, Edo – The Edo Central Senatorial leadership of the Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO), led by its Coordinator, Leftist Enabulele Larry, on Wednesday paid a high-powered courtesy visit to the 82 Squadron of the Nigeria Mobile Police Force at its Cobra Base, Ebhoyi, Uromi, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Receiving the delegation, the Commanding Officer of the Squadron, Commander Ebi Okoyen, applauded civil society organisations for serving as watchdogs not only to the police but to all arms of government and individuals in society.

He noted that constructive criticism and regular engagement by CSOs remain vital in achieving constitutional goals and enhancing security delivery.

Speaking earlier, EDOCSO Coordinator Enabulele reminded the Squadron of its core mandate to ensure that citizens “sleep with their two eyes closed,” especially as the yuletide season approaches.

He commended the unit for the significant reduction in kidnapping and other violent crimes across Esanland within the short period since its establishment, describing the progress as remarkable.

“Security is everybody’s business,” Enabulele stressed, calling for sustained collaboration between security agencies, communities, and civil society in the collective fight against crime.

In his response, Commander Okoyen, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed profound gratitude to the Esan people for their continued solidarity and support.

He gave special commendation to the Edo State Government under Monday Okpebholo for the recent donation of seven brand-new Hilux patrol vans to the Squadron, saying the vehicles have greatly boosted operational capacity.

“We promise to deploy these assets for the maximum protection and benefit of the people,” Okoyen assured.

He urged Esan sons and daughters in the diaspora to return home and invest, declaring that “your security is now guaranteed.”

A high point of the visit was the presentation and exposure of EDOCSO members to the Squadron’s unique identification ribbon, a distinctive marking worn by officers of the 82 Squadron to differentiate them from other Mobile Police units during operations.

The Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) is the umbrella body of human rights and pro-democracy groups in Edo State with presence across the three senatorial districts through community-based formations known as study centres.

The network focuses on promoting good governance, social justice, and respect for human rights.
