Abeokuta, Ogun – The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the immediate revitalisation of Apoje Farms in Ijebu-Igbo and a comprehensive review of all state-owned farm settlements, plantations, and forest reserves.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Rasheed Kashamu (Ijebu North I) and seconded by Hon. Olakunle Sobukanla, received unanimous support.
Lawmakers described Apoje Farms as a once-vibrant agricultural hub and called for infrastructure upgrades, modern farming techniques, and inclusion in the state’s Agricultural Master Plan with expanded activities in livestock, aquaculture, processing, and agro-tourism.
The House summoned the Commissioners for Agriculture and Forestry, along with the General Manager of the Ogun State Agricultural Development Corporation, to appear before it on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, to brief members on the current state of farm settlements.
In a related development, the Assembly’s Committee on Environment has directed the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa to immediately install a functional effluent treatment plant and build concrete channels to stop the discharge of industrial wastewater into the community.
The directive followed an oversight visit prompted by complaints of severe pollution affecting farmlands, livestock, and residents’ health.
The twin actions signal the Assembly’s renewed focus on agricultural revival and environmental protection in Ogun State.
