Awka, Anambra – The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, a coalition of over 70 civil society organizations, has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efficient result collation process during the recent Anambra State governorship election.

In a press conference on Tuesday, the Situation Room noted that the election, held over the weekend, did not present significant challenges that tested the capabilities of INEC’s new Chairman.

The assessment highlighted key developments in Nigeria’s electoral landscape.

The coalition, supported by the UK International Development partnership, emphasized that the collation process was notably smooth, a departure from past elections where logistical and procedural issues often marred the outcome.

The Situation Room’s statement comes amid broader electoral observations, including the EU-supported Election Observation Hub’s efforts in Anambra, which also reported a generally peaceful process.

However, the coalition used the platform to call for stricter enforcement of laws to curb vote trading ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling ongoing concerns about electoral integrity.
