IBADAN, Oyo - Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has made an emotional response to online abuse regarding the Ibadan Circular Road project during a public address.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal at Iwo Road, Ibadan, the governor acknowledged the criticism but emphasized his humanity.

“A lot of people might think Seyi Makinde is a strong man, but I’m also human,” he stated, reflecting on the personal toll of the backlash.

The Ibadan Circular Road project, a significant infrastructure initiative, has faced opposition from some residents affected by the proposed 500-meter corridor, leading to protests and online vitriol.

Governor Makinde reiterated that the project, decades in the making, is driven by economic necessity rather than personal gain.

The governor also alleged that the protests are being sponsored by opposition groups, insisting that he would engage directly with the genuine landowners affected by the project.

This emotional appeal highlights the challenges of balancing development with public sentiment, as the state continues to push forward with its infrastructure agenda.

The governor’s remarks have sparked varied reactions online, with some supporters praising his resilience, while critics question the project’s impact on local communities.
