PHOTO Education Federal polytechnic Ede sweeps top honours, emerges Nigeria’s best in research & development 2025

Osogbo, Osun – The Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, has recorded a historic triple victory in national innovation and research programmes, cementing its position as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing hubs for technological advancement and research excellence.

In a remarkable display of innovation and academic prowess, the institution on Thursday clinched three prestigious national awards in a single day:

– Best Polytechnic in Research and Development of the Year 2025 – awarded by the International Association of Research Scholars and Administrators (IARSA) at the Nigerian National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja.

– TETFAIR 2025 Market Validation Champion – won by the institution’s Powermantech Team at the TETFund-sponsored Alliance for Innovative Research (TETFAIR) programme.

– ASIP 2025 Overall Pitch Champion – secured by the institution’s CoolTech Team at the Academic Staff Incubation Programme (ASIP), also funded by TETFund with technical support from Innov8 Hub.

The Powermantech Team, comprising Saka Lukman Ayinde, Goodness Oreoluwa Edaogbogun, and Ogunwusi Adebimpe Abosede (all from the Department of Physics with Electronics), emerged as the overall best among 11 teams from tertiary institutions across Nigeria at the TETFAIR grand finale.

Their innovation, a Smart IoT-Enabled Distribution Box, impressed judges and earned the team the Market Validation Champion title and a patent – the second patent secured by Federal Polytechnic Ede through the TETFund-supported programme.

CoolTech Team Dominates ASIP Pitch CompetitionIn the same event, the institution’s CoolTech Team, led by Ben Festus (Director of Research & Development), Yusuf Taliat Ola (Director, Rector’s Office), and Oke Timothy (Department of Physics with Electronics), was crowned ASIP 2025 Overall Pitch Champion.

Both winning teams received their prizes, certificates, and the patent award from the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sunday Echono, in the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Salihu Bakari (Director, Research & Development, TETFund), representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), NASENI, Innov8 Hub management, and rectors of beneficiary institutions.

Later the same evening, Federal Polytechnic Ede was honoured with the Best Polytechnic in Research and Development of the Year 2025 award by IARSA.

Presenting the award, Professor B. Ogunsakin-Akin praised the institution for its:

Strong industry partnerships (national and international)

High-impact publications and successful collaborative projects

“The Federal Polytechnic Ede’s commitment to nurturing researchers and providing necessary resources is truly commendable and serves as an inspiration to others,” he said.

The Rector, Engr. Dr. Sani Man Yahaya, was represented at both events by a high-powered delegation led by Yusuf Taliat Ola (Director, Office of the Rector), alongside Thompson Ojo (Director, Academic Planning), Ben Festus (Director, Research & Development), and Sarafa Adiat Adigun (Director, Innovation and Commercialization).

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Lawal, the polytechnic described the triple victory as “a profound milestone that positions Federal Polytechnic Ede as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising hubs for research excellence and technological innovation.”

The achievements further solidify the institution’s growing reputation as a leading centre for applied research, innovation, and industry-ready solutions in Nigeria’s polytechnic sector.
