Benin, Edo – The Office of the First Lady of Edo State has reaffirmed its commitment to disability inclusion and the empowerment of vulnerable groups by disbursing cash grants to the Network for the Advancement of Persons with Visible Disabilities (NAPVID) and selected physically challenged individuals, totaling over ₦2 million.

‎The empowerment programme, which took place recently at the Government House in Benin City, saw the presentation of a ₦1,000,000 grant to NAPVID, received by Teni Momodu, specifically to support the running costs of the NAPVID Students Hostel for the period to September to December 2025.

‎Two individual beneficiaries, Mr. Orobosa Timothy Igbinomwanhia and Anna Ojugo, the State chairperson of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) each received ₦500,000 amongst other vulnerable persons who benefited from the cash empowerment initiative.

‎The coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Special Duties, Mrs. Betty Okonoboh reiterated the administration’s policy of inclusive governance.

‎She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, emphasising that proper utilisation would create a positive ripple effect that could uplift other members of society.

‎The latest intervention follows a courtesy visit by the Melody Omosah Esq-led NAPVID to the Office of the First Lady earlier in October where the organisation discussed its ongoing projects, including educational support for students with disabilities and the development of the students’ hostel.

‎Both parties explored areas of collaboration to strengthen disability advocacy in the state.

‎Reacting to the grant presentation, Momodu, NAPVID’s representative expressed profound gratitude to Her Excellency, the First Lady of Edo State, and the state government.

‎The empowerment programme is the latest in a series of initiatives by the Office of the First Lady aimed at promoting disability inclusion, poverty alleviation, and equitable development in Edo State.
