Idanre, Ondo – A startling revelation has emerged regarding the Owena–Alade–Idanre Road in Ondo State, where a reported ₦371.7 million allocated for its construction and rehabilitation between April and November 2024 appears to have yielded little to no visible progress.

The Tracka team, in collaboration with the BudgIT Foundation’s GovSpend platform, has exposed a significant discrepancy between public expenditure and the actual state of the road, sparking outrage among residents and calls for a thorough investigation.

The road, captured in a post shared on X by MonITNG Tuesday, presents a grim picture.

According to the post, an additional ₦33.2 million was disbursed in August 2024 for production engineering design, yet no evidence of meaningful construction activity, rehabilitation work, or contractor presence has been observed on site.

The contractor, H.K Flamingo Consulting Ltd, is now under scrutiny as the Tracka team’s findings suggest possible mismanagement or diversion of public funds.

The implications of this neglect are severe. Residents and commuters report worsened transportation challenges, slowed economic activities, and increased costs for moving goods and services.

Local farmers, students, and small business owners are bearing the brunt of the road’s condition, while the area has reportedly become a hotspot for criminal activities, including robberies and attacks, due to its poor state.

In a scathing critique, MonITNG accused the Federal Ministry of Works, led by Minister Dave Umahi, of perpetuating a cycle of unfulfilled infrastructure promises. The post alleges that the Federal Government continues to borrow heavily for development projects, only for funds to be mismanaged by politicians and contractors.

The Owena–Alade–Idanre Road, repeatedly listed as an “ongoing” project in national budgets, stands as a stark example of this pattern.

The call for accountability is loud and clear. MonITNG has urged the Federal Ministry of Works to provide transparent details on how the allocated funds were utilized and when the contractor will resume work.

Additionally, a formal request has been made to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the project, the implementing agency, and H.K Flamingo Consulting Ltd for potential financial irregularities.

As the investigation unfolds, the people of Ondo State await answers, hoping for a resolution that will transform their crumbling road into a lifeline for economic growth and safety.

For now, the Owena–Alade–Idanre Road remains a symbol of unfulfilled promises and a call to action for transparency in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
