Benin, Edo – In a significant development for the economic and social landscape of Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, valued at N939 billion, into law at the Government House in Benin City.

‎The budget, tagged "Budget of Hope and Growth," was passed earlier on Tuesday by the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) following its presentation by the governor on December 17, 2025.

‎The event underscores a collaborative effort between the executive and legislative arms of the state government to propel Edo State toward greater development.

‎Governor Okpebholo expressed optimism about the budget's potential, stating that it would elevate the state to new heights.

‎"I believe this budget of Hope and Growth will move Edo State to a greater height," he remarked during the signing ceremony.

‎The budget allocates N637 billion (68%) to capital expenditure and N302 billion (32%) to recurrent expenditure, reflecting a strategic focus on infrastructure and economic revitalization.

‎The funding for the 2026 budget is projected to come from multiple sources, including N160 billion from Internally Generated Revenue, N480 billion from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), N153 billion from capital receipts and grants, N146 billion from public-private partnerships, and additional revenue streams available to the state.

‎Sectoral allocations highlight a priority on the economic sector, which receives N614.2 billion, followed by the administration sector with N157.7 billion, and the social sector with N148.9 billion.

‎The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who led other assembly members to the signing, praised the governor's developmental strides.

‎"The governor is hungry to develop Edo State to enable Edo people to live a comfortable and better life. This budget will perform 100 percent," Agbebaku assured, emphasizing the administration's commitment to judicious resource utilization.

‎This signing follows the governor's earlier assent to the N675 billion 2025 Appropriation Bill, tagged "Budget of Renewed Hope for A Rising Edo," indicating a consistent approach to fiscal planning and execution.

‎The 2026 budget is expected to drive significant progress in key areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, and social services, aligning with the administration's vision for a transformed Edo State.

‎As the state gears up for the implementation of this ambitious budget, residents and stakeholders are hopeful that the "Budget of Hope and Growth" will deliver tangible dividends of democracy, fostering sustainable development and improved living standards across the region.
