Benin, Edo – In a timely initiative coinciding with the global celebration of love this month, the Edo state chapter of Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) has unveiled a new advocacy effort aimed at promoting empathy, inclusion, and meaningful interaction with the visually impaired community.

‎The campaign, titled "Blindness101: Love in Sight", is set to officially launch on Monday, February 2, 2026.

‎According to association's Public Relations Officer, Uyiosa Israel Efionayi, the 7-day digital drive seeks to educate the public on practical ways to become better allies, friends, and colleagues to people living with visual impairments.

‎"Love is about empathy and understanding," Efionayi stated in the campaign announcement.

‎He added, "We chose February because we believe an inclusive society is the ultimate expression of community love. Through #Blindness101, we want to teach our neighbors in Edo State how to be better allies, friends, and colleagues to the visually impaired."

‎The initiative moves deliberately away from narratives of pity toward genuine partnership and respect.

‎Over the course of the week, participants and followers will engage with content covering essential topics such as appropriate social etiquette when interacting with visually impaired individuals, improving digital accessibility in everyday tools and platforms.

‎Also, recognizing and supporting the professional skills and capabilities of blind community members.

‎Organizers emphasize that true inclusion represents one of the most powerful ways the public can demonstrate love and solidarity during this season and beyond.

‎The association has long advocated for the rights, welfare, and empowerment of visually impaired persons in the region, including calls for better access to education, safe environments, and supportive policies.

‎This new campaign builds on that legacy by leveraging social media and digital platforms to reach a broader audience in Edo State and beyond.

‎The public is encouraged to follow the campaign using the hashtag #Blindness101 and #LoveInSight, share experiences, ask questions, and commit to small but impactful changes in behavior.
