Benin, Edo – Four years after former coordinator general of Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO), Leftist Omobude Agho was involved in a ghastly motor accident around Ehor axis of Benin-Auchi Express road, the human rights activist has narrated his ordeal at a private health facility, Faith Mediplex in Benin City, where he was admitted for his injuries.
BENDEL Mirror recalled that on June 30, 2020, leftist Agho was on his way back from Edo central district where he had gone to establish two new community base civil society study centres to enable citizens at the grassroots know about their rights and responsibilities.
Agho, who has since been discharged from the hospital in the Edo state capital, questioned the rationale behind the huge amount charged patients at the facility when it do not render services commensurate to such amount received.
According to Agho, it is a "commendation" to describe the private facility owned by Church of God Mission International as a "concentration camp", as he, a patient was solely responsible for "almost" all his medications including orthopedics while he was on admission there.
He urged members of the public not to fall for "religious colorations", adding the health center was out to make profit and not necessarily to care for their patients.
"I found myself in an overrated hospital, very big edifice with 80% bullshit of all manners, they lied that they had an orthopedic unit with all the facilities but discovered later on that all that matters to them was the monies they kept milking from us.
"In that crazy trap house called hospital,I bought my orthopedic bed, almost all my drugs and the POP they administered all through from outside because they don't have it or even know it.
We noticed that the orthopedic doctor they rented me to was always never available and I was always not getting sufficient attention, so, investigated and found out that the said doctor was dissatisfied with what they paid him compered to what they have charged and collected from me. So I became the grass between two warring elephants but for my health sake, I began to gift tips to the doctor whom himself seem an improved orthopedic quack doctor.", Agho narrated in a post on his facebook account
The post further read, "In the original accident,I didn't loose blood but Faithmediplex infused 16 pounds of blood into my body,as a novice,I thought they were doing me good but later discovered that they only needed to sell the blood in their blood bank to hit good turn over with their blood supplying agent.
"Everything about that trap house hospital is about profit making without humanity at all, I cannot wish PBAT as terrible as he has treated Nigerians now to go get ordinary paracetamol from that place not to talk of my family, friends and acquaintances."
Others who commented on the post seek implementation of measures by relevant regulatory bodies on health care delivery especially at private health facilities in the state, which according to them render substandard services at exorbitant rates.
However, an official at Faith Mediplex told our correspondent that, the management could not comment on the matter as it is a "clinical issue" that could not be discussed via a telephone conversation, as they will have to look at the medical file to ascertain the true situation.
The official, who gave her name as the patient advocate said it was the clinical director that can better explained the situation, but maintained that, he can only do so when our correspondent come to the hospital in person.
"We have to look at the file, to know what happened during the period to know who was in charge of the case then, to be able to get proper information", the official told BENDEL Mirror
