Asaba, Delta – Environmental sanitation defaulters will be prosecuted as Delta State Government announces restriction of movement for three hours in the monthly cleanup exercise fixed for this Saturday July 27.

This was contained in a government announcement released Wednesday July 24.     
                                   
The announcement, which was credited to the Director of Public Communication/ Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Ministry of Information, Asaba, Theresa Adiabua Oliko, explained that the restriction of movement will be from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.           
                               
The statement, noted: "It is hereby announced for the information of the public, particularly Deltans, that the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise for the month of July, 2024, will be held across the state on Saturday, July 27, 2024 between the hours of 7am and 10am.

2. During the exercise, there will be restriction of movement of persons and vehicles. For this reason, residents are advised to cut overgrown weeds, desilt their drainages and keep their environment clean to prevent the spread of diseases, as it is the responsibility of every resident to clean 20 meters radius of their premises.

3. The Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, the Permanent Secretary, staff, Environmental Task Force and other relevant authorities will monitor the clean-up exercise.

4. Officials of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Local Government Council and other relevant authorities will evacuate the resultant refuse to the approved government dump sites. 

5. It is emphasized that those found not taking part in the exercise will be brought before the Mobile Magistrate Courts for prosecution."
