PHOTO Health World Malaria Day: NDDC offers free treatment, drugs, others to Edo residents

Orhionmwon, Edo – As part of effort to eradicate malaria in Nigeria, federal government through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), have taken the disease awareness campaign to Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state.

The commission, at a one-day outreach event recently to mark 2024 World Malaria Day, extensively sensitize the people on the possible causes and prevention of the disease.

Also, the NDDC medical team took out time to conducted free diagnosis, treatment, drug administration as well as distribution of mosquito nets to participants while the event lasted.

This is coming barely three months after the World Malaria Day celebration that is observed April 25th of every year.

According to the managing director, NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, the one-day event was geared towards improvement of the health status of citizens irrespective of their location.

Ogbuku, represented by Mrs Abigail Ugiagbe, said, "We are here (Oza, in Orhionmwon local government area) to create the awareness on the need to eradicate malaria from amongst us."

The host and Edo representative in the board of the NDDC, Patrick Aisowieren stated that the welfare of the people remains topmost priority hence the event to further educate the people to guard against the disease.

Aisowieren, who was represented by Omoregie Edokpayi stressed that the commission is out for a "serious war" against the causes of malaria in the country.

A medical consultant from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benson Okwara took out time to sensitize participants, who expressed appreciation to the NDDC for the event.

The theme of this year's 2024 World Malaria Day is 'Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World’.
