Benin, Edo – The Edo State Waste Management Board (ESWMB) has absolved register waste disposal operators in the state of any wrongs over astronomical increase in disposal tariff by the waste managers.

BENDEL Mirror recently reported that aggrieved residents in parts of Benin metropolis protested the increase in tariff by the operators, alleging of over 500 per cent hike without notice.

However, in a KUFM radio program on Thursday, public relations officer of the board, Edeniyere Osose maintained that the management avail operators the powers to fix their own disposal tarrifs, subject to agreement with their clients.

"The waste managers do not have the unilateral right to do increases on their own; but don't also forget that we already have established parameters and managers do negotiations and we've given them that latitude to do negotiations with their clients as to the cost and as to the frequency of time they can take their wastes", Osose was quoted by our correspondent who monitored the program
